About Bharatanatyam Salangai pooja
Bharatanatyam is typically performed to Carnatic music and often features themes from Hindu mythology, philosophy, and literature.
About the event
Salangai Pooja
“Salangai Pooja is a Hindu ritual performed to initiate them into the world of arts, particularly classical dance and music.”
During the ceremony, the child’s feet are placed on a plate containing a mixture of rice, flowers, and other offerings, symbolizing the beginning of their artistic journey. The child is then blessed by a guru or teacher, marking the start of their formal training in the chosen art form.
Salangai Pooja is an important tradition in South Indian culture, especially in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and is often performed before a child’s Arangetram (debut performance) in classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam.
